Liverpool’s Matty Virtue has signed a loan contract at Notts County for the rest of this season.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been released by The Reds after playing regular under-23 football for the high flying Premier League side.

Notts County announced the signing on Twitter shortly after owner, Alan Hardy’s cryptic tweet.

This signing comes after fellow midfielder, Ryan Yates, was recalled by Nottingham Forest just yesterday.

Virtue will wear shirt number six and is expected to take the role of goal scoring Yates, who has left a hole in the Magpies’ team.

“I’m a box-to-box midfielder who likes to get up and down the pitch and chip in with a few goals. I want to work hard and bring energy to the team,” Virtue said.

It is unknown whether the new signing will be available for the imperative league match away at Lincoln on Saturday.

More details will be known after the County press conference this afternoon.
