The World Cup kicks off in Russia on June 14 with England starting their campaign against Tunisia on June 18.
We look at the best places in Nottingham city centre to catch every minute of this summer’s festival of football.
The Southbank Bar, 18 Friar Lane, Nottingham, NG1 6DQ – The Southbank Bar is reaching out to all nationalities, aiming to be the hub for all football fans this summer. There are a number of viewing options throughout the bar varying from large projectors to small screens. Keelan Wightman, assistant manager, said: “We are really looking forward to it, a great month of football with a lot of nations. For us, we want to be a safe haven for all countries, with a great atmosphere, great football and great beer.”
Shooters Sports Bar, 15-17 Friar Lane, Nottingham, NG1 6DA – Perhaps the most impressive of the bars, Shooters Sports Bar boasts multiple large LED screens across multiple floors. Sean Pegg, marketing and promotions manager, said: “What makes us stand out is the sheer amount of screens that we have. Not only that but we have sound-zoned our venue, if there are two live games being played at once, each game can be viewed on the different screens with different commentary.”
OZ Bar – 19 St James’ Street, Nottingham, NG1 6FH – Having opened its doors in October, OZ Bar is the newcomer of the group. The venue has screens of all sizes, from the largest HD screens to smaller screens in booths for a more private World Cup experience. Matin Keshavarz, general manager, highlighted the beer garden with a large HD screen allowing fans to watch their team outdoors, weather permitting of course.
Rileys Pool & Snooker Club, 17A St James’ Street, Nottingham, NG1 6FH – Rileys Pool & Snooker Club offers a simple, no-nonsense option for fans around Nottingham. Two large projectors at each end of the venue and the promise of football related hits to get you in the mood for those crunch England games. If you’d like to take a break at half time, there are plenty of pool and snooker tables.
Squares, 6-9 The Poultry, Nottingham, NG1 2HW – With HD screens on multiple floors, as well as a large projector behind the bar, Squares provides the most traditional setting for fans. For those in the need for a half time drink, the bar offers plenty of space so you don’t have to worry about being sploshed in beer.
