Police have charged a man after a vulnerable 87-year-old Nottingham woman was targeted by a burglar.
39-year-old Paul Tainton of Lerwick Close, Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today charged with burglary, assault by beating and possession of a Class A drug.
He was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 5, 2019.
The charges relate to a report received on May 6, 2019 from a woman living in the Lenton area.
She complained of items taken from her house including her purse which contained a small quantity of cash.
While officers were at the victim’s home on Monday conducting enquiries they were alerted by a neighbour that a man was outside the victim’s address and had ran off.
Officers immediately carried out a search and noticed that the neighbour who raised the alarm had given chase and detained a man.
He was then arrested.
