The Nottingham Senior Cup Final will see last year’s winners Carlton Town face off against Newark and Sherwood United later today.

Halbrooke Stadium will play host to tonight’s clash, with Notts County’s Meadow Lane having to relinquish their ground after the National League sides of County’s probable National League play-off campaign.

Newark come into tonight’s match unbeaten in their last three from their domestic United Counties League fixtures, whilst Carlton face today’s opponents who similarly are on the back of a good run with three straight wins in the Northern Premier League East Division.

Newark’s manager Jonathan D’Laryea hopes the club’s efforts behind the scenes in training will be enough to see his side lift the trophy.

He said: “In terms of preparation we have to attempt to approach the match as any other game. It’s difficult at this level because players have their day jobs which obviously come first. We have however encouraged the players to take on extra fluids and eat the right foods.

“From a tactical perspective we will try to play our normal high every game. We know it will be a tough ask against a team from the league above but I have faith in all of our players to put on a good show. Hopefully it will be enough to return with the trophy”.

Carlton Town chairman Mick Garton believes form has come at the right time for his side.

He says: “Winning four on the bounce and six in the last 10 has ultimately kept us up, so spirits are a lot better knowing we’re going into the final having avoided relegation.

“Our focus has been on staying in the league as we were staring into the abyss of relegation, so this game has been at the back of our minds really.

“We’ve had a good record in this competition in the last few years having not won it for over 100 years, so we will take tonight very seriously so we can end the season on a high”.

Both sides last faced each other in 2019, with Carlton Town coming out on top with a 2-0 win.
