Nottingham Forest Women celebrate trophy win, credit to Ami Ford

Sunday’s league win against Stoke City was enough to crown Nottingham Forest’s Women champions of the National League Northern Premier Division.

A 3-0 win in front of the home fans means Andy Cook’s side added a second trophy to their cabinet this season after they lifted the League Cup two weeks ago.

Charlotte Greengrass gave the Red’s a lead early in the first half, before substitutes Gianna Mitchell and Yasmin Mosby made it a convincing win in the East Midlands.

It’s the first time since 2007/08 since Forest Women were last champions of the competition.

Chloe Hemmings, General Manager of Nottingham Forest Women, believes the team’s success is fully deserved.

She says: “I couldn’t be happier for the Club, two trophies in two weeks for the team is a true testament for how hard they have worked this season and is fully deserved!

“The Club has been on some journey to get to this point – since officially coming in house in 2018, the Club has gone from strength to strength despite COVID hindering some progress!

“It’s the staff’s and player’s cumulative hard work that has got us to this point and we hope we can take the play off final trophy to finish the season off!

“The girls went out there and did what they needed to do to get the win! Testament to Stoke who held us well for so much of the game, but it was nice to see the girls go and get three goals in the end”.

The team were given a well-earned night of celebrations, but Hemmings says it is back to business with all attention turning to their Play-Off match in a few weeks.

“Championship football has been the aim of this Club for a long while and forms part of the journey we are on to get to the Super League.

“Championship football is a complete game changer and will fundamentally change the football Club and the way it operates.

“It’s a really exciting time for Nottingham Forest Women and we are making some strategic changes behind the scenes to ensure we can compete if and when we get promoted”.

The Reds will face the winners of the FA WNL Southern Premier Division on Saturday 20th May to the chance a promotion to the Championship.
