A long-standing community leader fears The Meadows is losing its togetherness.
Margaret Spencer has lived in The Meadows her entire life but has warned there is not a lot to do for young people now.
The 86-year-old pinpointed a lack of youth clubs, a loss of local shops and a weariness of youths as reasons for the decline in community feel.
The veteran warned the area in Nottingham, which was once thriving with tennis courts and dance halls, is a victim of the sign of the times.
She said: “It was a lovely community, everybody knew each other.
“We’ve lost all our local shops, which is the places where people used to meet each other.
“There was a shop on every corner years ago, so you’ve lost that bit of community.
“It’s getting a little bit more difficult to get to know your neighbours, people keep themselves to themselves a lot.
“It’s all a sign of the times, we shouldn’t have to put up with it, but we do.”

The former shorthand typist used to be on the Old Meadows Tenants and Residents Association committee.
It is an independent and local group whose aim is to promote a sense of community and pride in the area.
But the Facebook page and ‘news’ section on their website have not posted since March and April 2024 respectively.
The latest newsletter available to view on the site is dated March 2022.
Margaret vented her disappointment at what the association has become.
She said: “They’re not doing anything.
“At one time we had a committee of about 12 or 14 and now there’s only about three, it’s a shame.
“There was this one lady we helped, she was up to here in debt and her husband had left her.
“The house was dropping to bits.
“It was a council house, she couldn’t get anything done.
“We stepped in and got in touch with City Homes, and within a month or so they got that house sorted out and the woman’s affairs sorted out so she could cope financially.
“That was all down to the Tenants and Residents.”
The association has been contacted for a comment but is yet to respond.
